![]() ![]() I have no idea how he did this, but he managed to convey two traits that I would have thought impossible to combine. My second favorite thing about the movie was Ben Foster. The fluctuating power, the flickering lights, the greasy engineering rooms and-OH GOD AN ALIEN BLACK TEETH OH GOD. There, now that's out of the way, let me outline why this movie rocks. The reactor has been running for decades, and Bower wakes up within an hour of the catastrophic failure? That's.rather convenient. You'll have a nice buzz by the end of the movie. Take a shot every time Bower takes one of those back-cracking falls onto something metal and/or pointy.Just to satisfy the snarky, I will include these points: This is one of those everything-adds-up-at-the-end thrillers, and you will miss out on the best cookies if you don't watch carefully. ![]() I love Ben Foster's character, and I think Dennis Quaid was born to play this part. It only APPEARED that way.ĭon't know about everyone else and I'm sorry if this review isn't really clear but I'm going to say that I found this film very uplifting to say the least.įilm Should have been B-rate, but it's not I buy into the idea that sometimes, things only LOOK bad or SEEM bad, but once you get to see the whole picture, you realize that it was never really that bad to start with. But then it was revealed that they were already on the planet Tannis and had been there all along. He was trying to convince them that they had reached the boundaries of the known universe or that the universe had simply ended while they slept. He showed them a glimpse of what was outside and, using their limited view, he tried to get them to his way of thinking. Like the Devil, he only made things LOOK bad for the protagonists. Gallo was wrong, was probably lying the whole time or somehow both and to me it was awesome. I mean, I felt my heart get crushed by fear and despair when Gallo showed them that there were no stars to be seen beyond the bridge.Īnd yet, when it was shown that they were on the planet all along and had merely crashed into an ocean, I was filled with joy. When the protagonists were on the bridge and he was gloating at them of how God had died and that they were on their own because the universe itself was GONE, I got really scared. It's mentioned somewhere on the main page that Gallo was a satanic archetype of sorts and I have to agree with that. I'm kind of a religious guy and a Catholic one at that. But what gets me the most is how the twist in the story comes out and how it affected me: Think about it, the ship makes a great "Closed Circle" horror story and the murderous mutants hunting the protagonists all make for a great survival horror feel. Note: THis is a film that may make most of its money on DVD, and will likely acquire somewhat of a cult status.Film A Good Movie with a very enlightening and inspiring twist. By the way, the movie does have a twist, which I will not spoil for anyone who wants to see it. It doesn't match the classic status of that movie, but Pandorum is worth seeing for its psychological feel and how some people might act after being in space for so long. Well yeah because this is really a sci-fi horror film more along the lines of Alien as mentioned above. Horror works best when the viewer uses his/her own imagination to visualize them. THe visuals were decent, but the creatures should've been kept in the shadows more. I didn't find myself looking at my watch one time. THere was tension, and for the most part the film was fast paced. The movie does claustrophobia well, and the entire movie had me jumping a lot. My only real problem with Gigandet was that he overacted a bit, but otherwise everything was good. Ben Foster, and Dennis Quaid are the two most marketable names, but the other characters, outside of maybe the Cam Gigandet character, worked pretty good. ![]() THe cast for the most part was rather good for a movie of this type. Of course I'm reviewing Pandorum, so I won't mention the former film anymore. Most people trashed Event Horizon as well, but it was another movie I liked also, even though the ending of that movie was flawed. The storyline wasn't completely original because it reminded me a lot of Event Horizon, but whereas Pandorum went more for a science level, Event Horizon was more supernatural. Taking a lot of ideas from Alien, a 1979 classic sci-fi movie, and borrowing the creatures from The Descent, another near classic movie from a few years ago, Pandorum was still impressive. Pandorum borrows heavily from other sci-fi movies, but what movie doesn't nowadays. After reading critics reviews, and how they trashed it, I was going in expecting less and was pleasantly surprised. I saw Pandorum last night and was somewhat impressed with the movie. ![]()
